Amazon.com - Ordered 07.01.1999 - Shipped 07.08.1999 - Received 07/19/1999 The Music Man opened December 19, 1957 at the Majestic Theatre, and ran for 1375 performances. This album was originally recorded on December 29, 1957 and was released on January 20, 1958. The booklet contains 2 big and 2 medium B&W pictures of the performers, and 2 medium pictures or drawings (I don't really know, one really seems to be a picture and the other really seems to be a drawing). There are about 8 pages of text by Marc Kirkeby, including a commented synopsis. This is a pretty cast recording, but I'm not really fond of it. I do not dislike it, but it's this old sounding voices that usually make such recordings bother me rather fast. I've got nothing to criticize, in its old fashioned musical style, this one is even good, and there are lots of good melodies (Marian The Librarian that reminds me Leading Men Don't Dance and Goodnight My Someone for example). A fine piece in my collection. It's not one of those I'll listen at the most, but I'll dig into it when I have some free time available.
