CD Now - Ordered 03.03.2001 - Shipped 06.07.2001 - Received 06.14.2001 Orchestrations by Music Makers, inc., Music Supervision by Sean Alderking, Directed by Paul Curran, Musical Direction by David Charles Abell. Orchestra: BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by David Charles Abell. This version was first performed at the Peacock Theatre, London on May 23, 2000. About the booklet(s), note that it's a great pleasure to have such high quality booklets. The thick paper, the numerous pictures, the texts... I think it's hard to hope a better booklet for a recording (even if because of rights problems, the full libretto is not included but the synopsis and lyrics, with probably a few key dialogues - I've not checked yet though). Maybe a more complete history of the show, and some biography notes for the main performers... So let's talk about the first booklet. It contains a 4 pages synopsis, and a one page text by Dale Wasserman, shortly explaining how the show was born, and what it represents nowadays in the musical theatre community. It contains 9 nice big color pictures of the show. The second booklet contains the lyrics with synopsis, and the track list. It also holds 4 small monochrome pictures of performers and orchestra conductor, plus one big B&W, and one big color picture. I'm a little surprised that it's mentioned nowhere that the musical comes from the novel by Cervantes himself, even if the character does belong to the story, the truth is that the story of Don Quixote was written by Cervantes and adapted by Dale Wasserman. See my remarks about Disney's disrespect of original authors in the Geppetto CD description and you'll have my feeling about all that.
