Theatre.com - Ordered 07/04/2000 - Received Scenic design: Neil Peter Jampolis, Costume design: Candice Donnelly, Lighting design: Mary Louise Geiger, Sound design: Duncan Edwards, Production supervisor: Matthew G. Marholin, Associate producer: Matt Garfield, General management: Robert V. Straus Productions, Press representative: Bill Evans & Associates, Vocal & Instrumental arrangements: Jimmy Roberts, Musical Direction by Tom Fay, Directed by Joel Bishoff, Album produced by Bruce Kimmel, Producers James Hammerstein, Bernie Kukoff, Jonathan Pollard. The boolket contains a sort of introduction and history of the show, using some revues (very positive - of course) comments. There is then a sort of 4 pages synopsis but given the size of the characters the text is printed with and the pictures spread in the text, it's a very light synopsis (but enough to understant each song's context, though). Talking about the pictures, there are 4 average size B&W ones, plus 3 color small ones on the booklet back cover (pretty small in fact). The back of the jewel box holds a color version of one of the previously mentioned B&W pictures. One could have expected a little more, even more after having heard the recording as one can easily find those actors sympathetic and want to 'see them closer'. Anyway, the booklet also contains a full songs list with performers, and some thanks from the authors and from the producer. It's worth noting that among the musicians, Tom Fay is playing piano. Why did it take me so long? Why haven't I been able to write a few words on this recording whereas I've been listening at it tens of times since I acquired it? I think it's at least partly because there's something obvious about it and that requires no further comment: it is excellent. I can't find a bad point to lean over. In its light funny revue it is really the best I've heard today. In that category, I'd put Little By Little for instance - even if this one's not specifically supposed to be funny. I'm not sure it's worth going into details. To be honest, I think I never tried to think about details for this recording. I just always experienced great moments of pleasure and fun, and did highly enjoy the whole thing, story, lyrics, music, performances, as a very consistent whole. I think I've never laughed out so loud listening to a cast recording. I can't imagine the fun it is when seen on stage. It's always simple (no chandeliers at all) and so true... Number one in the funny revue category!
