Ordered through All Music Services, along with Nixon in China complete recording. I was very pleased by the service Michael provided to me and by his patience. High Spirits opened April 7, 1964, at the Alvin Theatre, New York City. This album was recorded April 12, 1964.
The booklet contains a very interesting history of the show, and a very complete synopsis, both by Max O. Preeo (Editor, Show Music), on about 7 pages. There are 6 tiny B&W pictures of the performers, and reproductions of original playbill, program and LP advertisement.
I knew this recording was out of print, so when I saw Michael from All Music Services could provide me with it, I was curious. Now I'm so pleased I've discovered it! Fantastic melodies along with a very funny story, somehow entrancing moments. From the Overture to the last reprise of "Something Tells Me", this recording is a pleasure. I've found the sound rather good and the singers are not "Broadwayish" enough to prevent me from appreciating their wonderful performances.
Some of my prefered songs: If I Gave You, Go Into Your Trance (a particular highlight on the instrumental only part for this one), Forever And A Day... But most of the songs have particular valuable points that makes the whole recording "special" and unforgettable. This is an unvaluable addition to my collection.
