Gypsy opened May 21,1959 at the Broadway Theatre, New York City and ran for 701 performances.
The booklet contains 2 medium, 1 small and one big B&W pictures of the show. The inside of the jewel box holds one big,as does its back. It contains a text of 3 pages and a half by Martin Gottfried (prizewinning theater critic and author if Broadway Musicals and Sondheim) about the creation of the show, a 1 page synopsis by George B. Dale and 1 page and a half of text by Tom Shepard (reissue producer) about that particular reissue.
This is one of the recordings it would be a shame not to have in a musical collection as it is probably one of the pillars of american musical theatre. OK, it sounds a little old, but I had lots of pleasure listening at it. Of course there are moments I'm not particularly fond of, but some are actually incredible. Little Lamb for example is a gem, both the score and the performance on this recording.
