Berkshire - Ordered 03/09/99 - Received 03/19/99 Deleted but still available from Footlight Records and Berkshire Outlet. Flahooley opened at the Broadhurst Theatre on May 14, 1951 and ran for 40 performances. It was originally recorded on May 27, 1951. The booklet contains 3 pages of text and 3 pages of synopsis by Ken Mandelbaum, and 3 pages of an interview of Barbara Cook by Ken Mandelbaum. There is a big B&W picture of Barbara Cook, one of Ernest Truex, and one big color picture of people working on puppets. After a number of listenings, because I wanted a clear status of mine for this CD, I must say that it is very nice. The sound is a little old, but the spirit of the show seems to have remained intact. The songs performed by Yma Sumac are quite fantastic, with a very special mood of mistery and strangeness. As a whole, the recording is entertaining, with a number of pretty songs that strangely remain in the mind and that get out when one is not aware of it ("But where is that song from?"). A nice addition to my collection.
