Amazon.com - Ordered 04/08/99 - Shipped 04/14/99 - Received 04/24/99 Recorded on March 23, 24 & 26, 1998, at Whitfield Street Recording Studios, London. The London production of Chicago opened on November 18, 1997, at the Adelphi Theatre. The booklet contains 3 medium and 3 big B&W pictures of the performers on stage. There is a three pages text by Mark Shenton and a one page synopsis. It's quite difficult to compare this recording with the 1997 Broadway Cast recording. I think that this one sounds more modern, that is that the Broadway recording was nearer to an original cast (that I've not heard yet) than the 1998 London cast. Both have their appeals. I have just two points to raise: I think Ruthie Henshall shouts a little too much, and I found Henry Goodman a weaker Billy Flynn than James Naughton, much less cynic. Being more possibly leads Chicago to be less jazzy, a little less entertaining (but just a little). But after all, this recording is still high quality (including performers), and it's a high level fight when I compare it with the 1997 Broadway cast.
